Do you want to own a website of your own so that you can have an online presence and be able to showcase what you have to offer to the world?

Are you are afraid that owning and maintaining a website for your small business might cost you much, or might need a lot of technicalities?

Then you have just landed on a post that would show you exactly how you can design and maintain a website for your business without breaking the bank...infact it is totally free!

I know that so many people today, including you, believe that owning a website was such a tedious task which is reserved for the truly wealthy, or those who own very large businesses, but it's a bad 'ol lie, because today I am going to show you how to design and manage a free GNBO website of your own with a few easy steps.

Meanwhile lets see what GNBO means:

GNBO is an acronym for "Get Nigerian Businesses Online" which is a program owned and managed by Google, and geared towards helping small business owners to reach their potential customers all over the world and to have an online presence free of charge.

This initiative was based on the fact that, as the power of the internet grows, so do the opportunities for small businesses. The internet is already contributing 1% a year to Nigeria's economy, and that is set to rise even more over the next 3 years. For this reason, both small, medium and large scale businesses need to get online and get a slice of the action.

Here are the steps that you should take, in order to setup a free website using Google's GNBO;

1. Open a Gmail account for your website. You can skip this step if you already have a Gmail account that you want to use for your website.

If you have not signed into your Gmail account, then you should be prompted to do so, otherwise, you should then see a screen like the one below.

3. Add your desired web address into the text box and click "Check availability" , if someone else doesn't already own the address you desire, then you should see an availability confirmation written in green, just like in the above screenshot. If You are okay with the address click "Continue"

4. Add the name of your website. This should be a title for your website, so be very careful when chosing this, because it helps people find you easily.

5. Add your business slogan or motto. This is a short description for your website and determines whether your customers would find you easily or not.

N/B: most of these initial parameters are to be carefully chosen at first, because, even though you can still change them later, I have observed that most of the stuff you fill in initially while designing your free GNBO website, are what actually show up to search engines, and other changes don't really affect what search engines see.

6. Add a description for your website. This is a long description for your website, and I recommend that you include keywords into your site description. Secondly, I would also recommend that you use up the 1000 word limit if possible, so as to improve your site's SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
For e.g if you wish to offer Autocad tutorials on your website, then you can add things like these into your description:
We offer free Autocad training online to students and graduates. We also sell Autocad tutorial CDs online...etc.

7. Add images to your website. You can add up to four images as required which you can delete later on if you wish.

8. Fill in other required details and hit the "Create Site" button.

Hurray! your free website has been successfully created.

You can then start editing your website and do pretty much everything from your dashboard.

Your website address would be a sub domain name that looks like this: www.yourname.gnbo.com.ng
and you can decide to get a custom domain name in the future, but for the time being, enjoy your free website, with free hosting and a free sub domain name.

To login to your dashboard in order to edit your website after you have logged out, this is the link to use: www.yourname.gnbo.com.ng/admin (I assume this is your gnbo website address).

Remember: you must be logged into your Gmail account before you can access your GNBO website dashboard.

Hope this post has helped you learn a new trick. Don't be selfish then, share it to millions of others who desperately need this information by using the share buttons below now...Thanks.
